Glorious Food Myths

An excellent turn to the common misconceptions of the food industry and even our own our dietary habits.

The article is rather long, but it is also an excellent read, so even though I will highlight the key points here, please consider reading it in full.

Here’s the low-down:

  1. In drinks — sugar is just as bad as fructose corn syrup, despite it’s recent come-back to the market
  2. Fruity drinks are not a healthy part of a diet — in fact, they are just as bad as soft drinks. Eating fruit on the other hand is good for you. Also antioxidant water is just a marketing ploy, you are buying sweetened and/or flavored regular water
  3. Kosher != Quality food product
  4. Do not judge a plant’s nutritional value by it’s color, it doesn’t always mean that greener means healthier and more nutritional — great examples of this contradiction are cabbage, celery and cauliflower
  5. We don’t eat when we’re hungry, in fact — if we don’t see it, we don’t even know what we’re eating (true for so many other things as well)
  6. Grass beef is not always and necessarily better than corn-fed beef
  7. Arugula is not fancy, it’s a weed, don’t pay a lot of money for it.
